Political Influence

   By establishing a government over Western Europe, Charlemagne reestablished much of the unity of the old Roman Empire and made the way for the development of modern Europe. He was a reformer (tries to change things). (Website 1) On Christmas Day in 800, while Charlemagne knelt in prayer in Saint Peter's in Rome, Pope Leo III took a hold of a golden crown from the alter and placed it on the head of the king.
